3 Days Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari in Uganda
A 3 days Queen Elizabeth National Park safari is an excellent way to discover Uganda’s wildlife, beautiful landscapes and rich natural heritage. Located in western Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the country’s most popular safari destinations. It is known for its open savannah plains, crater lakes, wetlands, forests and the wildlife that lives across these diverse habitats.
This safari combines exciting game drives with a boat cruise along the famous Kazinga Channel. You will have opportunities to look for elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs and a variety of bird species. With some luck, you may also spot lions resting in the grass or watching for prey.
The park is especially famous for the tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha sector, although sightings are never guaranteed. Depending on your route, travel time and accommodation, your itinerary may include a visit to this part of the park.

Detailed 3 Days Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park and enjoy an afternoon game drive
Your safari begins with a morning departure from Kampala or Entebbe. After meeting your driver-guide, you will travel west through Uganda’s countryside, passing local communities, farms, green hills and roadside trading centres.
The journey usually takes around six to eight hours, depending on your departure point, traffic and stops along the way. You can arrange a lunch stop during the drive.
After arriving in the Queen Elizabeth National Park area, you will check in at your lodge and have time to relax before your afternoon activity, depending on your arrival time and the lodge’s location.
If time allows, head out for an afternoon game drive. Your guide will help you search for animals across the savannah, including Uganda kob, buffaloes, elephants, warthogs and other wildlife. The open grasslands and scattered trees create excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography.
As the sun begins to set, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings and prepare for a full day of safari activities.
Accommodation: Lodge or safari camp in or near Queen Elizabeth National Park
Meals: Lunch and dinner, depending on your departure arrangements
Day 2: Morning game drive and Kazinga Channel boat cruise
Wake up early for breakfast before heading out for a morning game drive. The early hours are often rewarding because animals may be more active while temperatures are cooler.
Explore the Kasenyi Plains, one of the park’s well-known wildlife-viewing areas. These open grasslands are home to Uganda kob, which attract predators such as lions. Your guide will look for wildlife tracks and signs while helping you understand the behaviour of the animals you encounter.
You may see elephants moving across the plains, buffaloes gathering in herds, antelopes grazing and a variety of birds. Lion sightings are possible, but wildlife moves freely through the park, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Return to your lodge for lunch or a short rest before the afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel.
The Kazinga Channel connects Lake Edward and Lake George and is one of the highlights of a Queen Elizabeth National Park safari. During the cruise, you will travel along the water while observing wildlife on the banks.
Look out for large groups of hippos in the water, Nile crocodiles resting along the shoreline, elephants coming to drink and buffaloes gathering near the channel. The boat trip also offers excellent opportunities to see waterbirds and photograph wildlife from a different perspective.
After the cruise, return to your lodge. Spend the evening relaxing, enjoying dinner and listening to the sounds of nature around the park.
Accommodation: Lodge or safari camp in or near Queen Elizabeth National Park
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner, depending on your selected package
Day 3: Breakfast and return to Kampala or Entebbe
Enjoy breakfast at your lodge before checking out and beginning the journey back to Kampala or Entebbe.
Depending on your departure time and the route selected, you may have opportunities to stop for photographs or enjoy views of the countryside along the way. If you would like to include the Ishasha sector to search for tree-climbing lions, discuss this with Travogo Ventures before booking. Visiting Ishasha can require additional driving time and may need changes to the standard itinerary.
Arrive in Kampala or Entebbe later in the day, depending on traffic, road conditions and the length of your stops. Your three-day Queen Elizabeth National Park safari ends with wonderful memories of Uganda’s wildlife and landscapes.
Meals: Breakfast, with lunch depending on your arrangements
What animals can you see in Queen Elizabeth National Park?
Queen Elizabeth National Park supports a wide variety of wildlife because it contains several different habitats, including savannah, wetlands, forests and crater lakes.
During your safari, you may encounter elephants, African buffaloes, Uganda kob, waterbucks, warthogs and other antelope species. Lions and leopards also live in the park, although they can be difficult to find. The Ishasha sector is particularly known for its tree-climbing lions, but their behaviour and location vary, so sightings are not guaranteed.
The Kazinga Channel is one of the best places to observe hippos and waterbirds. Crocodiles may also be seen along the banks. Birdwatchers can look for kingfishers, fish eagles, herons, pelicans and many other species.
Your guide will help identify the wildlife and explain how the park’s different habitats support its animals.
Best time for a Queen Elizabeth National Park safari
Queen Elizabeth National Park can be visited throughout the year. The drier periods, often from June to September and December to February, are popular for game drives because some tracks may be easier to navigate and wildlife can be easier to spot around water sources.
The wetter months bring greener landscapes and can be rewarding for birdwatching and photography. However, rain may affect road conditions and make some tracks more challenging.
Wildlife sightings depend on the season, weather and natural animal movements. If you have particular interests, such as birdwatching or searching for lions, Travogo Ventures can help you choose a suitable travel period.
Where will you stay during the safari?
Accommodation options around Queen Elizabeth National Park range from comfortable budget lodges to midrange safari lodges and luxury properties. The best option depends on your budget, preferred comfort level and the activities included in your itinerary.
